Guiding Principles for Mobile Learning
- Aim for small student to device ratio.
- Consider the device functionality of device and assess if it is a necessary, engaging tool for the particular lesson or assignment.
- Assess if a mobile device is the best supplement of format for the lesson.
- Assess if it well help the student reach the learning goal.
- Allow for students to create something original in an authentic and meaningful way.
- Use mobile learning as a way to enhance and deepen student learning aligned with the learning outcomes.
- Using mobile technology to develop 21st Century skills; the 4C’s—creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking.
- Allow for student feedback on the mobile learning activity.
- Recognize limitations or constraints of the devices, apps, or activities.
- Assess whether the device is appropriate for all students; be mindful of students with disabilities and adjust content and/or accessibility options accordingly.
